Grand County Hospice Invites Community to Share a Meal and Talk About End-of-Life Wishes MOAB, UTAH — Some conversations are difficult to start—but sometimes they become a little easier when they happen around a table, over a good meal, with people who care. Grand County Hospice invites community members of all ages to join a free community dinner and guided conversation about what matters most, how we want to be cared for, and how we hope to be remembered. The dinner will be held Monday, September 28, at 4:30 p.m. at Easy Bee Farm on East Easy Street in Moab. The evening will include a warm meal and an open, compassionate conversation led by Grand County Hospice. Last year's Death Over Dinner drew 50 community members, completely filling the event to capacity and leaving a waiting list. Attendees of all ages gathered to share personal stories, listen, and navigate topics that can often feel challenging to bring up at home. That overwhelming response highlighted a strong local desire to explore these meaningful topics together. Because space remains limited, reservations are required again this year. Grand County Hospice hopes to expand the gathering into a twice-yearly event. 'Discussing end-of-life can be an opportunity for connection, and meaningful conversation among family and friends.' said Lisa Monson-Potter, Director of Grand County Hospice. “Meeting together to talk openly about how we want to be cared for and remembered should be something we can approach with compassion. And it can also be fun, meaningful and even celebratory. Sharing a meal gives us a chance to connect with one another while making space for conversations that really matter.” This isn't a lecture or a formal presentation. Guests will be invited to consider questions such as who they would trust to make medical decisions for them, what types of care they would want, what brings them comfort, and how they would like to be remembered. Having these conversations before a crisis occurs can help families understand one another’s wishes and make difficult decisions with greater confidence and peace of mind.
